The smell of the grease paint, the roar of the crowd, and perhaps the throb of a boom box, flavor the atmosphere for those Club kids who like to do their thing in front of an audience. Performance builds teamwork, confidence and furthers creativity, and often unleashes hidden talents.Music Theater Dance Music Our kids not only perform music, but they often create their own compositions. With the advent of Music Tech in out technology room, budding composers can translate music theory to application and then add digital mixing to create original compositions. Whether upbeat hip-hop or a more traditional ballad, the kids have frequent opportunities to perform their original songs at Club and city events. Additionally, our members enjoy the benefit of their very own recording studio, complete with digital equipment for recording and mixing music. The Club's music program is part of the national Bonnie Raitt, Fender Guitar Initiative that advances skills playing guitar, keyboards, piano, drums and digital recording. Theater Club thespians normally take to the boards in the summertime when our theater group puts on its annual plays. From contemporary to traditional scripts, the kids work hard in front of the curtain and behind it to put on a first-class production. The end of summer session at Camp Sun 'n' Fun is a traditional time for actors to entertain their fellow campers. Club troupes have also performed at the Pawtucket Arts Festival and other venues. Dance Dance is a performing art that needs little or no prompting at the Club. When one of our kids hears a song that she or he likes the movement is often spontaneous. From a structured perspective, our staff guides dancers while allowing for a lot of creative leeway. The kids, with staff encouragement, will often choreograph their own steps and moves. Our dancers have stepped out at our Alum Reunion, Annual Meeting and other Club events. top |
