Our programs for pre-teens spring from the same Boys & Girls Club core areas of: Character & Leadership; Education & Career; Health & Life Skills; and Sports, Fitness & Recreation. Much as Club teenagers, members 6-12 years of age share in similar programs, but geared to the appropriate age level.
Torch Club, a prequel to Keystone Club, is small-group leadership development program for youngsters from ages 11. Members elect officers and plan and implement their own activities and community service projects. Pawtucket's Torch Club has an official charter from Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Pre-teens have their own space, separate from the teens' CLUB so that younger youth can interact with peers. They receive the same academic support as teens through Power Hour and access to the Club's computer lab. A spacious games room is open to pre-teen members and is the beehive of younger kids' activities, promoting social recreation. Together, members play bumper pool, ping pong, billiards and other games – either on their own or in organized tournaments which we hold regularly. The various athletic leagues – basketball, baseball and football – offer teams for differing age groups, all of which are populated by Club pre-teens virtually year-round. The gymnasium and swimming pool are also pre-teen facilities at dedicated times. For additional cost beyond the annual $30 membership fee, pre-teens can be part of the Club's Childcare Program before and after school, which includes transportation to and from local schools. Meals are provided daily for pre-teens as well. Please ask about scholarship assistance as the Club offers funding for families in need. For more information, please call the Club at 401-722-8840. Please return completed form in person, or mail with payment to: Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket, One Moeller Place, Pawtucket, RI 02860. |
