Baseball

Our Club players and coaches won the Northeast Regional RBI
Championship and were national RBI World Series runners up.
If baseball is America's pastime then the Pawtucket Club is All-American. Baseball leagues began at the Club back in the 1940s and have thrived ever since. Every spring nearly 400 Club youth register for RBI and Rookie League baseball then spend warm days - and nights on our lighted baseball field - flashing the leather and trying to smash a home run. For more information, contact Luke McLaughin, Director of Sports, Fitness & Recreation, at 401-722-8840 or lmclaughlin@bgcpawt.org.

Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI)
Through collaboration with Major League Baseball, Boys & Girls Clubs of America has expanded or established baseball and fast-pitch softball programs in more than 150 communities nationwide. The RBI program, sponsored by the Pawtucket Red Sox, is not only a long-standing tradition at the Pawtucket Club, but one of excellence as well. In 2006, the Club's baseball team, comprised of local boys, 13-15 years old, was crowned champion of the RBI Northeast Regional Tournament in Trenton, New Jersey. The team went on to finish second at the 14th Annual RBI World Series, held in California.

Rookie League
Rookie League, which is a bridge between tee ball and fast pitch baseball, is an organized league designed to teach youth, ages 9-12, the fundamentals of baseball. One of the unique features of this program is that participants hit live pitches from a pitching machine that always throws strikes. The primary goals of our Rookie League are to teach grassroots level baseball, encourage sportsmanship, and provide a fun environment for beginning players. Program benefits include building the self-confidence and motivation of members.

Tee Ball
Designed to teach young boys and girls the basics, our tee ball program welcomes children ages 4-5. Supervised by Boys & Girls Club staff, games are held once a week for seven weeks each summer. Players learn the very basics including how to swing a bat and run the bases, as well as respect, socialization, and how to be a good team player!
